This is a work in progress.. I never know where a painting will go when I begin and sometimes I wonder more for the finished ones.. It’s hard to put a ‘stop point’ on a work at times. I think it’s more organic than that.. It’s interesting how the dialogue changes through creating a visual narrative and how the dialogue actually ends when the painting is somewhat finished. To me I think the mystery of art lays somewhere inbetween.
A new little piece finished today. I think It should be titled ‘footbridge’ … Inspired by a trek in the Wicklow mountains at the back of the Djouce woods where the top of powerscourt waterfall begins. There was a footbridge.. it brought thoughts to mind.. Finding my feet and introducing myself to a new surrounding. I felt welcome. And I felt at home.
Here is an example of the atmosphere and environment of where I love to spend a lot of my time. These places in nature fuel my art when I get back to the studio. I think a short video, even just from my phone captures an idea of the experience. The sounds, movements and visual all help, I am only missing the sharp sweet scent of the pine trees, grass, soil and many other scents which can only be appreciated when your sitting surrounded by it physically. Our world is a truly beautiful place.
This is something I came across recently on a walk out in the Djouce woods nearby. Another image to fuel my visual memory. What appealed to me here was the forest edge in the background and the tree stumps leading to it. It brought a profound sense of self awareness and the reminder that we walk only on borrowed territory. It’s hard to put such experiences into words but I hope I’ve explained a little more of where my paintings come from.
(Photo was taken on my iPhone) I must will develop the film after the last 3 shots are found..
In this ever growing age of the internet, art is finding a strong platform on the internet and it seems the way for the future for artists who constantly get turned away by art galleries. Finally there is good opportunity for artists to get their work out there and to be seen and appreciated by all art lovers, collectors and lots of different people all over the world. These are exciting new times for artists
