For me working small can be more of a challenge than working larger.. The space in which I have to work with smaller canvases can feel restricted and cluster phobic. It’s only when the image and atmosphere I have in my memory from a space out in the open landscape comes into site and the narrative slowly begins to unfold, do I feel the small space on the canvas has become infinite and significant to me.
I think I’ve finished this piece. Unfolding Autumn came to mind as I walked in the woods a few weeks ago. It was between summer and autumn painting this.
Sometimes finishing a painting is a lot like saying good-bye to a part of myself.. (we were having such an interesting conversation. Come back again soon?…) There is a fear about that..
Hiking through Djouce woods today and ended up here. Not a sole to be seen as on a normal day this place has lots of people around. It was a great experience to get the space to myself and really take it in..
Today’s location of inspiration. Taken on my iPhone, here a few clips of what excites me today. They will most likely become part of some of my next pieces. The atmosphere was stark and warm and the only sounds were of nature itself.
