I am so happy to be amongst a list of such wonderful artists for Three Rooms exhibition, Hyde Bridge Gallery, Sligo. This show has been postponed on several occasions due to Covid restrictions ever since 2020 but it is finally here and we’ll worth the wait. It opens tomorrow Sat 23rd of April at 3pmContinue reading “Three Rooms”
I’ve been revisiting this painting the past few days and as each time I looked at it, I felt it needed a different conclusion , especially because of the direction my work is going. I am more at ease with its development so I think this painting has come to a better place now… SomeContinue reading “Art Work Revisited ‘Commimication’”
This is one of the fun parts of making the painting. One of the expressive parts for colour, as the values form from lights into darks. It’s almost like the colour is dancing along with the under drawing’s lead.
Re-worked 2020Over the past few months looking back at this painting from 2019, the more I looked at it, the more I felt it needed refining. So I revisited it these past few strange weeks.
Detail of a ‘Aligning the Planets’ painting that I am revisiting at the moment.. For the past year I thought this painting was finished, but I’m feeling a new energy with it now. Some detail sections below. Full size 100cm x 100cm, oil and cold wax on linen
I am delighted to donate 3 little paintings for a very worthy cause to the Jack and Jill Foundation. Incognito 2020
I enjoy how colours talk to each other and the challenge of making them work within one shared space. Line and texture fall into that same venture at some point and pose similar challenges. I never really know where a painting is going until almost the end. I can’t usually tell when, until I comeContinue reading “Communication”
A large scale work in progress.. It’s a question of what survives and what must give in.
Trying to fix a painting.. inspired by thoughts and visual awareness from my hike today..well yesterday now.. terrains, tree felling, January sunset, tree stumps, wild winds over Lough Tay and spying on sparrow hawk trying to fly against the winds.. .
I am thrilled to be invited to exhibit at Wicklow Artist: A Gathering in aid of SVP in Greystones this year along with other great Wicklow artists. The pop up gallery is in La Touche Place around the corner from the Happy Pear. It opens this Saturday at 2pm and runs till the 17th ofContinue reading “Wicklow Artists: A Gathering”
‘Sheep Farmer’ 70x70cm When out sketching in the open landscape today I met a sheep farmer who was walking up the hill towards where I was stood doing some sketches. He stopped to ask what I was painting and I told him I was just doing some abstracted sketches of what I’m seeing. He wonderedContinue reading “Trail Series”
This painting went to many different places as it progressed. I painted layer over layer and made marks where later I lifted them again. I spent days looking at it until I could see where it wanted to go. Sometimes I have to destroy certain elements of a painting before I can take it anyContinue reading “Abstract In Progress – Part 2”
Pushing and pushing this painting till I’m happy with it.. a real challenge with this one I have to say but we seem to be coming to some agreement somewhere at the minuit..who knows.. Tree circles are very much embed in my mind especially since my hike yesterday..too many trees have been wiped out inContinue reading “Abstract In Progress – Part 1”
Things that caught my eye while out hill walking in some of my favourite places yesterday and today. How light changes.. How thoughts move..
I just had to make it bigger..now it’s become both landscape and a diptych which wasn’t my intention.. What to do??!! ..I have 2 more blank canvases come to think about it…
