This is where my painting is taking me right now.. It may look like an entirely different artist’s work but if you really look at it, it’s not.. I’m letting go of order and expectation. That being entirely from my own expectation and criticism within my own institution..
Abstraction is very hard but it’s also very freeing. It requires trust and inner connection, but to let go of question and fear..
I find myself painting over abandoned paintings lately and it comes with no hesitation when I’m returning to it.. Even the harshest of endings..
Two of my most recent paintings titled, ‘Tall Trees’ and ‘Campfire’, will be exhibited next week at Signal Arts Centre 16th Annual Members Exhibition, 1 Albert Avenue, Bray Co. Wicklow. The show runs from May 23rd to June 5th 2016, with the opening May 29th 3pm to 5pm. All are welcome!
Some of my new paintings. These are 3 paintings I recently finished. There a lot more to come and I am very excited about this new work. The change in environment has indeed seeped into this new work. County Wicklow has so many beautiful places and there are hidden pieces of detail that take my interest all around here. I am so inspired by the landscape here. From the wide open landscape of the mountains to the sheltered interior of the forestry. I have found solace.
New canvas, new work! I get most of my canvas stretched to my own specs and preferences. It’s important to me that the canvas and stretchers I work on are of best quality, hard wearing and really thick and strong. This means that my several layering, texturing and mixed media applications last permanently without weakening the surface or warping the wood. I am bursting with energy and visual imagery for these new works ahead!
