My current new series is all about pushing abstraction more than I have ever done before. Responding to my surrounding landscape and being so passionate about nature, forests and the open landscape. The colours are influenced by the bright vibrant summer light that is being experienced here in Ireland lately. This is only a shortContinue reading “Pushing Abstraction”
Wet Boots’ 20x20cm Oil and beeswax on canvas This painting although previously thought finished, had been sticking out from the rest here in my studio the past few months looking to rework its ending.. So today I gave in.. there is a fear in reworking an old painting but it’s a fear that drives meContinue reading “Reworked”
This is something I am working on at present.. I find it hard to ‘stop painting’ sometimes..it’s like my conscience is whispering to stop but I can’t. Physically, I feel compelled to work some of my paintings up and up until they are almost smothered.. that is where I ‘go’ when I surround myself withContinue reading “When?”
‘Solace’ Oil, Mixed Media on Canvas, 61cm x 61cm The light changes so much in the forest as I walk through it almost every day. I feel apart of the surrounding atmosphere and I absorb all of its virtues through all my senses. The enormity of the trees, the scent, the colours, the light, theContinue reading “New Painting”
I finally upload some of my current work on my Facebook page. Have a look and see other bits from my art world.. Check it out and feel free to follow! Click here
Tree grump, the face of an old tree surrounded by left over bits of what’s left of cut down trees and some from the winters storms. Taken on my iPhone..
New paintings, new layers
I took this on my phone yesterday of a small painting I’m currently working on. Converted into black and white, shows its texture more and changed its mood somewhat.. The measuring of a narrative stripped of its colour changes slightly to my mind.
‘Sublime Illusion’ Oil and mixed media on board 40cm x 40cm From my previous body of work. Finally I’m able to frame them all! All floating in black frames with nothing touching their edges. Come back in January when I will have them all uploaded, bright and shiney in their new shoes 🖼🎨 Happy Christmas!,Continue reading “Finally”
Here’s a little piece of my studio floor. Some things brought inside.
Me with myself
Derval Freeman in her studio.
This is a short take of one of my paintings titles ‘Carcass II’, for a video piece I am putting together of my current work.
Here is an example of the atmosphere and environment of where I love to spend a lot of my time. These places in nature fuel my art when I get back to the studio. I think a short video, even just from my phone captures an idea of the experience. The sounds, movements and visualContinue reading “Places I Go #2”
Something from the past.. A sketch I did last year from memory. I photographed it using a shallow depth of field f2.8 on my camera lens. Then I uploaded it to my computer and manipulated it with some textured layering on photoshop. The original drawing was a gift to my brother for his civil partnershipContinue reading “Something From the Past”
I’ve recently started using my Google+ account for networking my art. Its another pretty cool way of connecting with other artists https://plus.google.com/u/0/+DervalFreemanArtist/about
This is a light sensitised piece of paper from my sketchbook (very small sketch book, Approx A6). I love the involvement of my painterly techniques that liquid light sensitising allows. It resembles an organic type of conversation between my ‘painter’ and ‘photographer’ side. This is all too inevitable I feel.. I’m enjoying the collaboration ofContinue reading “Light Sensitivity”
I began a new painting today working in the larger scale. I had forgotten the feeling of freedom working larger had allowed me in the past. Its hard to explain. Like my physical movements against a canvas closer to my size make me feel immersed somewhat. Working large after many years is like a new experience toContinue reading “Note To Self”
