This is a work in progress.. I never know where a painting will go when I begin and sometimes I wonder more for the finished ones.. It’s hard to put a ‘stop point’ on a work at times. I think it’s more organic than that.. It’s interesting how the dialogue changes through creating a visual narrative and how the dialogue actually ends when the painting is somewhat finished. To me I think the mystery of art lays somewhere inbetween.
This is a short take of one of my paintings titles ‘Carcass II’, for a video piece I am putting together of my current work.
A new little piece finished today. I think It should be titled ‘footbridge’ … Inspired by a trek in the Wicklow mountains at the back of the Djouce woods where the top of powerscourt waterfall begins. There was a footbridge.. it brought thoughts to mind.. Finding my feet and introducing myself to a new surrounding. I felt welcome. And I felt at home.
Something from the past.. A sketch I did last year from memory. I photographed it using a shallow depth of field f2.8 on my camera lens. Then I uploaded it to my computer and manipulated it with some textured layering on photoshop. The original drawing was a gift to my brother for his civil partnership wedding.
I hadn’t sketched like that in a long time and it was very grounding for me at the time. I have a love for trees, they make me feel protected in a way, they are like piers to me, older and wiser. Monumental survivors..
Here are some of my new paintings for 2015
I am currently photographing some new paintings. It’s a slow careful process to get the exact colour and every detail of a painting right, but it’s worth it when your work is represented to its fullest truth.. After all it took weeks and months of dedication to create a meaningful piece or art in the first place..
Check back here to see my new work which will be posted in the coming days.
