This is from my series titled ‘Solace’ where my direction moved into exploring my art and drawing from nature in an intimate way. The parts in the landscape I was most drawn to were those that gave a sense of fragility. When I am out on walks in the mountains and forests of Wicklow, exploring and taking in the atmosphere I would photograph things that took my interest. Some photographs I took just to keep as a photography piece however, a lot of the time the photographs were a reference to the start point of a painting, especially my black and white film photos. Sometimes I just used memory and feeling of a place where on occasion I might refer back to pieces I collected out on walks such as pine needles, twigs, pine cones and other such things. They ended up on the canvass at times, as a sort of treasure kept and preserved like souvenirs or even a photograph.
