Questions, Questions..

When I feel I am nearing the conclusion of a painting, I gather a lot of mixed thoughts and feelings about how it should finish.. it’s the worst and best feeling..

I am limboed with the contemplation of a work in progress..there is a fine line between absolute euphoria and complete failure..

you need a good sense of humour at times..

Gorilla Face

This is from a walk up Djouce mountain I took recently, the one up behind the woods I venture out to most days.

At the summit stood this giant jutting ‘gorilla-face-like’ piece of boulder. It stood in a communicative posture with it’s muscular physique of back and shoulders firmly grounded.

Below in the distance, her child ventured the world.. Mother and child.. Guider and nurturer.. Watching over..

Work In Progress # ‘stop point’

This is a work in progress.. I never know where a painting will go when I begin and sometimes I wonder more for the finished ones.. It’s hard to put a ‘stop point’ on a work at times. I think it’s more organic than that.. It’s interesting how the dialogue changes through creating a visual narrative and how the dialogue actually ends when the painting is somewhat finished. To me I think the mystery of art lays somewhere inbetween.

Footbridge :: new painting

A new little piece finished today. I think It should be titled ‘footbridge’ … Inspired by a trek in the Wicklow mountains at the back of the Djouce woods where the top of powerscourt waterfall begins. There was a footbridge.. it brought thoughts to mind.. Finding my feet and introducing myself to a new surrounding. I felt welcome. And I felt at home.
