From my studio today, a detail from a work in progress
From today. Work in progress 170715: I’m almost there with this piece. My hike the other day up Wicklow mountains, where the sky practically met the earth has influenced this in a big way. Along with yesterday’s torrential rain that fell solid and heavy on my studios thin roof as I painted. It was asContinue reading “170715 : Immersed “
From yesterday’s hike up Wicklow mountains. Where the sky eerily met the earth.
Yesterday spent outdoors. Today, my studio.. A mind filled All images from my phone.
Something new from yesterday. I will be updating my ‘current work’ area with some new paintings shortly. This piece here is oil and mixed media on stretched paper. Approx 35cm x 50cm
New canvas, new work! I get most of my canvas stretched to my own specs and preferences. It’s important to me that the canvas and stretchers I work on are of best quality, hard wearing and really thick and strong. This means that my several layering, texturing and mixed media applications last permanently without weakeningContinue reading “New Canvas”
Today’s location of inspiration. Taken on my iPhone, here a few clips of what excites me today. They will most likely become part of some of my next pieces. The atmosphere was stark and warm and the only sounds were of nature itself.
I’m recalling a haze of how I was thinking..
This is a work in progress.. I never know where a painting will go when I begin and sometimes I wonder more for the finished ones.. It’s hard to put a ‘stop point’ on a work at times. I think it’s more organic than that.. It’s interesting how the dialogue changes through creating a visualContinue reading “Work In Progress # ‘stop point’ “
This is a short take of one of my paintings titles ‘Carcass II’, for a video piece I am putting together of my current work.
A new little piece finished today. I think It should be titled ‘footbridge’ … Inspired by a trek in the Wicklow mountains at the back of the Djouce woods where the top of powerscourt waterfall begins. There was a footbridge.. it brought thoughts to mind.. Finding my feet and introducing myself to a new surrounding.Continue reading “Footbridge :: new painting “
Here is an example of the atmosphere and environment of where I love to spend a lot of my time. These places in nature fuel my art when I get back to the studio. I think a short video, even just from my phone captures an idea of the experience. The sounds, movements and visualContinue reading “Places I Go #2”
Something from the past.. A sketch I did last year from memory. I photographed it using a shallow depth of field f2.8 on my camera lens. Then I uploaded it to my computer and manipulated it with some textured layering on photoshop. The original drawing was a gift to my brother for his civil partnershipContinue reading “Something From the Past”
This is something I came across recently on a walk out in the Djouce woods nearby. Another image to fuel my visual memory. What appealed to me here was the forest edge in the background and the tree stumps leading to it. It brought a profound sense of self awareness and the reminder that weContinue reading “Places I Go #1”
In this ever growing age of the internet, art is finding a strong platform on the internet and it seems the way for the future for artists who constantly get turned away by art galleries. Finally there is good opportunity for artists to get their work out there and to be seen and appreciated byContinue reading “Platform for Art”
Here are some of my new paintings for 2015
